Volunteer to be a “Charlie” and join us in our efforts to improve the quality of your MBTA! Charlies, named after the unfortunate hero in the song “Charlie on the MTA”, collect vital information about what they experience as they use the MBTA system. They are the eyes and ears of the MBTA, and serve as critical TransitWorks ambassadors.

Charlies record and report issues relating to: MBTA on-time performance, seating availability, system cleanliness, MBTA customer service, and many more. In particular, there are three main ways that Charlies help TransitWorks.

  1. Focus Groups. From time to time, TransitWorks conducts focus groups designed to obtain targeted feedback from MBTA riders on current and timely issues the MBTA is addressing.

  2. General Reporting. Charlies can help by reporting items that degrade the quality of the transit system to TransitWorks. For example, Charlies can report a leaky roof, a broken escalator, a missing sign, or broken glass. This will enable TransitWorks to help the MBTA make needed improvements to the system.

  3. Assistance with survey or information distribution. From time to time, TransitWorks will need help distributing surveys or key information related to our programs. Charlies may volunteer to distribute surveys on platforms or at stations, for example. Your assistance would be crucial in helping us reach out to a wider audience.

If you would like more information about being a Charlie, feel free to e-mail us at volunteer@transitworks.org .
